What This Work Solves
A patio that is too small to use
Builder-standard patios are often just deep enough for a step out of the door. Extending one out into the yard is one of the most straightforward ways to make a backyard genuinely usable, and it is far less disruptive than moving the whole thing.
Water pooling against the house
A patio poured flat, or sloped the wrong way, sends monsoon runoff straight at the back wall of the house. Patio slabs need a deliberate fall away from the structure, and enough of it to actually move water.
Furniture that will not sit level
Rock, pavers on unstable base, or an old patio that has settled all make for wobbling chairs and tables. A properly prepared and finished slab gives you a flat, continuous surface that stays that way.
A surface too hot or too slick
Finish matters in Arizona. A broom finish gives traction underfoot when the surface is wet near a pool; lighter colors and decorative treatments read cooler than dark ones. We will talk through the trade-offs for how you actually plan to use the space.

How We Do It
Lay out the space
We mark the footprint on the ground so you can see the actual size before anything is dug, and check how it relates to doors, gates and existing landscaping.
Excavate and set the grade
The area is excavated and graded, with the fall away from the house established at this stage rather than corrected later.
Compact the base
Base material is placed and compacted so the slab is supported evenly across its whole area.
Form and reinforce
Forms are set to the finished height and shape — including curves where the design calls for them — and reinforcement is placed and supported.
Place and finish
The slab is poured, screeded and floated, then finished to the texture chosen for the job.
Joint, cure and clean up
Control joints are cut, the slab is cured, and the site is cleaned down before we leave.
Concrete Patios: Common Questions
Can you match a new patio extension to my existing patio?
We joint and tie the new section to the existing slab so it reads as one surface, and we can match the finish and the joint pattern. What we cannot promise is an exact color match — concrete poured years apart cures and weathers differently, and some difference in tone is unavoidable. Where an exact match matters, resurfacing or staining the whole area is usually the better route.
Should I pour the patio slab before or after the covered structure goes up?
It depends on how the structure is supported. Some designs set posts into footings before the slab is poured; others sit on the finished slab. If you already have a builder for the cover, we will coordinate the sequence with them so footings, post locations and slab elevation all line up.
What finish works best around a pool?
A textured finish that gives traction underfoot when the surface is wet. Broom finishes are the straightforward option, and decorative textured finishes achieve the same thing with more visual interest. We will show you what the options look like in real photos rather than swatches.
How thick should a patio slab be?
It depends on what the slab has to carry — a seating area is a different case from a slab supporting a heavy structure or taking vehicle traffic. Thickness, base depth and reinforcement are decided together once we know how the space will be used, and they are stated in your estimate.
